Dental Examinations
At Royal Arsenal Dentists, our team are dedicated to long term preventative dental care for the whole family. As a new patient, the first appointment we’d
like to arrange for you is a New Patient Examination. This appointment will involve you completing a Medical History Form, followed by an Xray (if necessary) and a thorough dental examination of the health of your gums, teeth and mouth.
We will also take the time to get to know you and to discuss any treatment preferences or concerns you may have with your smile.
Dental Hygiene
Regular hygiene appointments to clean and polish your teeth are the cornerstones of any great smile and foundations of oral health.
At Royal Arsenal Dentist, we offer high quality hygiene therapy sessions, we will care for your dental health in the most gentle, thorough and pleasant manner.
Our hygienists will give you advice on how you can take care of your oral hygiene at home, by explaining proper tooth brushing and flossing techniques.
Gum Disease
Gum disease is a very common condition where
the gums become swollen, sore or infected.
If you have gum disease, your gums may bleed when you brush your teeth and you may have bad breath. This early stage of gum disease is known as gingivitis.
If gingivitis isn't treated, a condition called periodontitis can develop.
This affects more tissues that support teeth and hold them in place.
If periodontitis isn't treated, the bone in your jaw may be damaged and small spaces can open up between the gum and teeth. Your teeth can become loose and may eventually fall out.
Root Canal Therapy
A root canal is needed when the pulp (the soft tissue inside the tooth normally containing nerves and blood vessels) becomes inflamed or infected as a result of: injury or trauma, deep decay, large fillings cracking.
The aim of the treatment is to remove all infection from the root canal. The root is then cleaned and filled to prevent any further infection. Root canal treatment is a skilled and time-consuming procedure. Most courses of treatment will involve two or more visits to your dentist.
White Fillings
Whether you have old metal coloured fillings to be replaced, or you have new cavities that need filling, talk to us about our white fillings that are colour matched to your teeth for a virtually invisible result.
There are alternative, natural-looking materials made from porcelain and composite resins, which are coloured to match natural tooth enamel. Unfortunately, few materials can match the strength and durability of dental amalgam and such, may need more frequent replacement.
Extraction/Oral Surgery
When restoration procedures such as root canal therapy, crowns,
or fillings are not enough to save a tooth, it may need to be pulled,
or extracted.
Tooth extraction procedures today are far less painful than ever
before, thanks to powerful anesthetics and sedatives. In many cases,
a patient who has teeth pulled experiences little or no discomfort,
and only minor bleeding.
Sedation
We understand that many patients can become quite anxious when faced with dental treatment. To help make our nervous patients feel more relaxed, we offer intravenous sedation.
While under sedation, you will feel deeply relaxed but you will still be able to understand and respond to requests from the dentist. You will be unaware of the operation and this form of treatment is ideal for patients who wish to avoid the noise and vibration of the drill. It is a very safe and effective treatment.
